Quote“Muhammad, upon him be peace and blessings, unveiled the transitory nature of this world and death, and showed the grave to be a waiting room opening onto the realm of eternal happiness. He led every heart seeking happiness, regardless of place or time, to the fountain of Khadr, and enabled them to drink the elixir of immortality.” -Fethullah Gulen

Welcome to Tanbeehi'l Anaam (Exhorting Mankind), a book of more than 10,000 salawaat (blessings) and salaams (salutations) on our beloved Prophet Sayyidina wa Mawlana Hadhrat Muhammad al-Mustafa Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam by Shaykh 'Abdul Jalil bin 'Azoom Rahmatullahi 'alaih of Qairawan, Tunisia. This book is also popularly known as Shifaa' al-Asqaam wa Mahwa'l Aathaam Fi's-Salaat 'Alaa Khairi'l Anaam (The Healing of the Sick and the Erasing of Sins Through Offering Salaat on the Best of Mankind).
Let us recall that Allah Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala has appointed seventy thousand angels to invoke salawaat and salaams on the Holy Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam at his tomb (lovingly referred to as Rawdah or Paradise) any one day, and the next day another seventy thousand angels come and offer salawaat and salaams, and so on. Those angels who obtain such an opportunity once never obtain it again, because Allah Ta'ala in His Love and Justice wants to provide such an opportunity to all the angels. And let us remember that the angels neither eat nor drink nor sleep (La akla la shurba wala naumun lahum). So, transform yourself into an angel, that is, do not eat or drink and approach Tanbeehi'l Anaam in a state of sawm (fasting) and start to recite salawaat on the Beloved of Allah, Muhammad u'r Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam. Some mashaaikh (spiritual masters) have indeed formed the habit of completing the recitation of Tanbeehi'l Anaam every month, especially in Ramadan, the month of fasting. Indeed Shaykh 'Abdul Jalil bin 'Azoom Rahmatullahi 'alaih himself conveys to us these teachings in the following salawaat. Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee Ja'alallahu sab'eena alfa malakin yahuffoona biqabrih O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad for whom Allah has kept seventy thousand angels to surround his tomb Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee man akthara zikrahu wa huwa saaim Gufirat lahu'l jaraaim O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad: Whoever does his zikr (remembers him) in abundance while fasting, is forgiven his sins. Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee man akthara zikrahu bimaa huwa ahluh Adhallahullahu fee dhillihi yauma laa dhilla illa dhilluh O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad: Whoever does his zikr with as much abundance as he deserves it will be provided shade by Allah on the day when there will be no shade except the shade provided by Allah.
And what better way to do the Zikr of the beloved Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam than to invoke salawaat and salaams of Allah Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala on him while fasting? Tanbeehi'l Anaam is in two volumes. Volume 1 has 21 chapters while volume 2 has 17 chapters woven around salawaat on a particular theme. Some of the chapter titles are: Fee Fadhli Mahabbatihee (On The Beneficence of His Love), Fee Akhlaaqihi'sh Shareefah wa Shamaailihi'l Lateefah (His Noble Character and Sacred Conduct), Fi'l Mi'raj (His Ascent, Body And Soul, To The Heavens), Fi'l Akhbaaraatihi'l Ghaybiyya Wa Sidq Maqaalatihi'l Marwiyyah (The Reports He Gave Of The Unseen And The Truth Of His Reported Sayings), Fee Zuhoorihi wa 'Alaamatihi wa Wilaadatihi wa Ridha'atihi (His Manifestation And His Signs, His Birth And His Nursing), Fee Mu'jizaatihi'l Baahirah (His Shining Miracles), and Fee Fadhli'sh Shafee'ish Shaafi'i (His Favour On Us As An Accepted Intercessor). And who would know better than Shaykh 'Azoom that our beloved Prophet Muhammad-e-'Arabi Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam is an intercessor whose intercession is accepted by Allah Ta'ala? In the introduction to the kitab, he narrates that he saw Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam in his dream. His house appeared all lit up from the light on the face of Muhammad al-Mustafa Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam. He greeted him three times: Assalatu wa's Salaamu 'alaika yaa RasulAllah Blessings and salutations on you, O Messenger of Allah. Then, he requested him for his shafa'ah (intercession). The beloved Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam kissed him and gave him the good news that he will attain his shafa'ah. When he woke up, he composed this couplet: Ra'aytul Mustafa fi'nnawmi haqqan Bidaaree aakhidhan biyadi'l yameeni Wa qabbalanee wa bash-sharanee wa aalaa 'Alaa naylish-shafa'ati bi'l yameeni I saw The Chosen One (al-Mustafa) in my dream for true In my house, taking my right hand, And he kissed me and gave me the good news That I will gain his intercession with those on the right Allahu Akbar!. | Recite it in Congregation | Tanbeehi'l Anaam is best recited in congregation. It starts with the verse of the Qur'an: Surely, Allah and His angels shower blessings on the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings on him and salute him with a worthy salutation (33:56). Then follow the salawaat each of which can be said to be composed of two parts. The first part is: Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad. This is recited in congregation after which the one who leads the congregation completes the second part of the salaat. The second part of one of the salawaat is: Alladhee man salla 'alaihi waahidatan Sallallahu 'alaihi bihaa 'ashraa. Whoever sends blessings on him once, Allah sends blessings on him ten times. We learn of this in the following Hadith Shareef: Hadhrat Anas Bin Malik Rady Allahu Anhu narrates that the Holy Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam said: "If somebody hears my name, he should ask blessings upon me. When a person asks one blessing upon me, Allah Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala sends ten blessings upon him, forgives his ten sins, and raises him ten degrees (in Paradise)." (Ahmad, An-Nasaai). So, as the congregation recites Tanbeehi'l Anaam, it goes on learning about the sacred ahaadith (sayings) of the Holy Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam as well as about Islam in general. Some majalis (spiritual gatherings) of Zikr specialise in the recitation and completion of Tanbeehi'l Anaam and some mashaaikh (spiritual masters) have memorised the whole of it; indeed all of its more than 10,000 salawaat. Allahu Akbar! | Learn the Holy Qur'an Kareem | One of the most remarkable features of Tanbeehi'l Anaam is that all its chapters (as well as their sub-sections) end with a salaat coupled with a verse from the Holy Qur'an Kareem. For example, the chapter on Mi'raj ends with the following salaat. Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Al-ma'niyyi bi Qawlihi 'Azza wa Jalla Ta'zeeman li qadrihi wa zikraa: Maa kadhabal fuaadu maa ra-aa Afatumaaroonahoo 'alaa maa yaraa Wa laqad ra-aahu nazlatan ukhraa Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallama 'alaih O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad: The meaning and significance of which can be understood from what Allah 'Azza wa Jalla said befitting the Prophet's honour and his rememberance: The heart lied not in what he saw Will you then dispute with him concerning what he saw? And indeed he saw him yet another time. (53:11-13). May Allah's blessings and peace be on him. So while we recite salawaat from Tanbeehi'l Anaam, we also learn about some of the sacred teachings from the Holy Qur'an Kareem. | Learn the Blessed Hadith Shareef | Those who are familiar with the ahaadith (sayings) of Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam would love Tanbeehi'l Anaam as it opens up new vistas of compositon of salawaat together with Hadith Shareef. To appreciate this contribution of Shaykh 'Abdul Jalil bin 'Azoom Rahmatullahi 'alaih, let us recite three more salawaat from Tanbeehi'l Anaam, cross referenced with (translations of) the blessed Hadith Shareef of the Holy Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam. Salaat Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Al qaaili: Yassiroo wa laa tu'assiroo wa bash-shiroo wa laa tunaffiroo O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who said: "Make things easy and do not make them harsh and difficult. Give glad tidings and do not create hatred". Hadith Shareef Hadhrat Anas bin Malik, Rady Allahu Anhu, relates that the Holy Prophet, blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, said, "Make things easy and do not make them harsh and difficult. Give glad tidings and do not create hatred". (Bukhari and Muslim) Salaat Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Al-qaaili: Al-Jannatu tahta aqdaami'l ummuhaat O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who said: "Paradise lies beneath the feet of mothers". Hadith Shareef Muawiyah bin Jahima says that his father approached the Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam and said, "I intend going on Jihad. I seek your advice". The Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam enquired, "Is your mother alive?" He answered, "Yes". The Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam said, "Go and serve her, for paradise lies beneath the feet of mothers". (Ahmad, an-Nasaai, Baihaqi). Salaat Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Al-qaaili: Zayyinoo aswaatakum bi'l-Qur'an O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who said, "Beautify your voices with Qur'an (recitation)". Hadith Shareef Al-Bara' bin Azib Rady Allahu Anhu reported Allah's Messenger Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam as saying: "Beautify your voices with the Qur'an". (Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, Darimi). | The Sifaat of the Holy Prophet | Consider what we learn from the following salawaat about the sifaat (qualities) of the noble Prophet Sayyidina Muhammad Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam. Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee u'tiya khuluqa Adam wa ma'rifata Sheeth Wa shaja'ata Nuh wa shiddata Musa Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee u'tiya khullata Ibrahim wa lisaana 'Ismail Wa hubba Daaniyaal wa ridhaa Is'haaq wa zuhda 'Isa O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who was given the character of Prophet Adam Alayhissalaam, the gnostic knowledge of Prophet Sheeth Alayhissalaam, the valour of Prophet Nuh Alayhissalaam, and the strength of Prophet Musa Alayhissalaam. O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who was given the friendship of Prophet Ibrahim Alayhissalaam, the tongue of Prophet Ismail Alayhissalaam, the love of Prophet Daaniyaal Alayhissalaam, the contentment of Prophet Is'haaq Alayhissalaam and the abstinence of Prophet 'Isa Alayhissalaam. Indeed, the beloved Prophet Muhammad al-Mustafa Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam combined in himself all the superlative qualities of all the previous Prophets 'alaihimussalaam. To gain a flavour of some of the sifaat of the noble Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam, it suffices to recite the following four salawaat, cross referenced with (translations of) his blessed Hadith Shareef.
Salaat Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee kaana khuluquhu'l Qur'an O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad whose character was the Qur'an Hadith Shareef Sa'd bin Hisham said: I went to 'Aisha Rady Allahu Anha and said, "Mother of the faithful, tell me about the nature of Allah's Messenger, Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam". She asked, "Do you not recite the Qur'an?" On my replying that I certainly did, she said, "The Prophet's nature was the Qur'an". (Muslim) Salaat Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee kaana yusallee wa li sadrihi azeezun Ka azeezi'l mirjali mina'l bukaa O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who when he prayed salah, his chest sounded like the sound of a boiling pot. Hadith Shareef Abdullah ibn Shikh-khir, Rady Allahu Anhu relates, "Once I visited the Holy Prophet, Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam, when he was offering salah (prayers). I heard the sound of his weeping coming out of his chest which was like the sound of a boiling pot". (Tirmidhi) Salaat Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee kaana waj'huhu yatala'lau tala'lua'l qamari laylata'l badr O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad whose face shone like the full moon. Hadith Shareef Narrated Abu Is'haq Rady Allahu Anhu: Al-Bara' Rady Allahu Anhu was asked, "Was the face of the Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam (as bright) as a sword?" He said, "No, but (as bright) as the moon". (Bukhari) Salaat Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee kaana laa ya'kul-u's-sadaqah O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who did not eat of (what was given as) charity. Hadith Shareef Hadhrat Buraidah Rady Allahu Anhu reports that when the Holy Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam emigrated to Madina, Hadhrat Salman Farsi Rady Allahu Anhu brought a tray full of fresh dates and offered it to him. He asked, "What is this"? Salman Rady Allahu Anhu said, "It is a sacrifice (sadaqah) for you and your companions." He said, "We do not eat sadaqah". On the second day too, Salman Rady Allahu Anhu came out with a tray of dates and said, "These dates are a gift". Then the Holy Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam and the companions ate of those dates. Thereafter, Salman Rady Allahu Anhu saw the Seal of Prophethood (in between his shoulders) and embraced Islam. (Tirmidhi) | The Dua of the Holy Prophet | The two chapters on the invocations (dua) of the Holy Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam has 64 salawaat each dealing with a specific dua of the beloved Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam all of which were answered. For example, he prayed that either 'Umar ibn al-Khattab or Abu Jahl bin Hisham accept Islam. His prayer was answered and Sayyidina 'Umar Rady Allahu 'Anhu accepted Islam. We learn of this in the following Hadith Shareef: Hadhrat Abdullah Ibn Abbas Rady Allahu Anhu reported the Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam as saying, "O Allah, strengthen Islam with Abu Jahl bin Hisham, or with Umar bin al-Khattab". In the morning, Sayyidina 'Umar Rady Allahu Anhu went to the Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam and accepted Islam; then prayed openly in the mosque. (Ahmad and Tirmidhi) The salaat in Tanbeehi'l Anaam is as follows: Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee da'a an yu'azza'l Islamu bi ahadi'l 'Umarain Fa kaana 'Umar ibn al-Khattab fi'l heen O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who prayed that Islam be strengthened with one of the two 'Umars and Lo! 'Umar ibn al-Khattab accepted Islam soon after.
He also prayed for Hadhrat 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas Rady Allahu 'Anhu that Allah may give him the knowledge of the Qur'an and Allah gave him so much knowledge he came to get the title Tarjumaana'l Qur'an (One who explains the Qur'an). We learn of this dua in Bukhari Shareef: Narrated Hadhrat Ibn Abbas Rady Allahu Anhu: Once the Holy Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wa Sallam embraced me and said, "O Allah! Bestow on him the knowledge of the Book (Qur'an)". (Bukhari). The salaat in Tanbeehi'l Anaam is as follows: Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee da'a li-Ibni Abbas bittafaqquhi fiddeeni i'laan. Fa kaana yud'aa bi-Tarjumaani'l Qur'an. O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who prayed for Hadhrat 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas that he may get the knowledge of the Deen of Islam. And Lo! he came to be called the Interpretor of the Qur'an. The blessed Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam also prayed for Hadhrat Abu Hurairah, for Hadhrat Abu Hurairah's mother and for Hadhrat Anas, may Allah be pleased with them. The relevant Ahaadith Shareef and salawaat are as follows: Prayer For Hadhrat Abu Hurairah Narrated Hadhrat Abu Hurairah Rady Allahu Anhu: I said to Allah's Apostle Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam, "I hear many narrations (ahaadith) from you but I forget them". Allah's Apostle Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam said, "Spread your Rida (garment)." I did accordingly and then he moved his hands as if filling them with something (and emptied them in my Rida) and then said, "Take and wrap this sheet over your body". I did it and after that I never forgot anything. (Bukhari) Salaat Concerning This Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee da'a li Abi Huraira-ta heena wa'zah Famaa nasiya shay'an minhu ba'da zaalika hafizah O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who prayed for Abu Hurairah when advising him after which he never forgot anything he had memorised. Prayer For Hadrat Abu Hurairah's Mother Hadhrat Abu Hurairah Rady Allahu Anhu said: I used to invite my mother who was a polytheist to accept Islam, and one day when I had invited her and she caused me to hear something about Allah's Messenger Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam which I do not care to repeat, I went to him weeping and said, "Messenger of Allah, supplicate Allah Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala to guide Abu Hurairah's mother." He said, "O Allah, guide Abu Hurairah's mother". So I came out cheered by the Prophet's supplication. When I came to the door I found it shut, and when she heard the sound of my feet, she said, "Stay where you are, Abu Hurairah". I heard the splashing of water, and when she had bathed and put on her chemise, but was in too big a hurry to put on her head-covering, and opened the door and said, "I testify, Abu Hurairah, that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger". I then returned to Allah's Messenger Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam weeping for joy, and he praised Allah (Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala) and said some good words. (Muslim) Salaat Concerning This Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee da'a an yuhabbibAllahu Aba Huraira-ta wa ummahu li'l mu'mineen Fakaanaa fi'l anaami mahboobain O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who prayed that may Allah be pleased to turn Abu Hurairah and his mother into believers and Lo! the two of them became the beloved among people. Prayer For Hadhrat Anas Umm Sulaim Rady Allahu Anha narrates that she requested (the beloved Prophet), "Messenger of Allah! Anas is your servant. Make supplication to Allah for him." He said, "O Allah, multiply his property and his children, and bless him in what You give him". Hadhrat Anas Rady Allahu Anhu said, "I swear by Allah that my property is abundant and that my chidren and grandchildren exceed the neighbourhood of a hundred in number to-day". (Bukhari and Muslim).
Salaat Concerning This Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alladhee da'a li Anas-in bi kathrati'l maali wa'l walad Fadafana miatan wa 'ishreena li-sulbihi Wa kaanat tarikatuhu laa tu'addu wa laa tuhad O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who prayed for Hadhrat Anas that he may have lots of wealth and children and Lo! he passed away having one hundred and twenty offspring and left a legacy that could neither be counted nor had any limits. | A Majlis of Ilm and Zikr A MAJLIS OF ILM AND ZIKR In the chapter on enjoining good and forbidding evil, we learn that the Holy Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam advised Muslims to follow the Qur'an and the Sunnah, establish the five Arkan-al-Islam, avoid haram (the prohibited), go for Jihad, vie to pray the salaah (obligatory five times daily worship) in the front row, respect the 'ulama (learned scholars), be patient in the face of calamities, attend gatherings of 'Ilm and Zikr, do Zikr at all times, do Zikr of Allah in secret and in open, say Takbir on Ayyaam u't-Tashreek (the three days following 'Eid-u'l-Ad'haa), wash the dead, offer Salaatu'l Janaza, repay debts, be ritually pure, use miswaak (tooth stick), fast (non-obligatory fasts) on the 13th, 14th and 15th of every (lunar) month, fast 6 days of Shawwal after 'Eid, fast Mondays and Thursdays, fast on the ninth and tenth of Muharram, be of good behaviour, do justice among wives, and so on. He forbade associating partners with Allah, and taught us not to follow satan, not to follow one's lusts, to avoid waste, not to talk while the Imam is giving Khutba, not to be obscene and shameless, not to enter a house without permission, not to argue uselessly, not to oppress, not to be arrogant and jealous, not to contract temporary marriage (mut'ah), not to fast on the day of 'Eid, and so on. Each of these teachings has a salaat that goes with it. The Shaykh makes you learn Islam while reciting salawaat. He is a Sunni 'aalim (learned scholar) and 'aabid (worshipper of Allah) who convenes a majlis (spiritual gathering) of Ilm and Zikr at the same time. In this majlis, a teaching enjoining good is followed by a teaching forbidding evil as follows: Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Al-Aamiri bi Shahaadati An Laa Ilaaha Illallah wa Anna Muhammad-an Rasulullah Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad An-Naahee 'anish-shirki Billah O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who enjoined to bear witness that None is to be worshipped but Allah and that truly, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad who forbade to associate partners with Allah. | The Holy Prophet is the Imam | The chapter Fee Imamatihi'l 'Aliyya Lijamee'il Bariyya (His Exalted Leadership over One and All) tells us he is the Imam of the mursaleen (Messengers of Allah) and the anbiyaa (Prophets) Alayhimussalaam, of the saadiqeen (the truthful), the mukhliseen (pure of heart), saabireen (the patient in the face of trials and tribulations), muslimeen (those who surrender to Allah and accept Islam), mu'mineen (the believers), qaaniteen (who adore Allah), mustagfireen (those who seek forgiveness), muhajireen (the emigrants), mujahideen (those who do jihad), az-zaahideen (the abstinent), al-'Arabi wal 'Ajam (the Arabs as well as non-Arabs), muqarrabeen (those drawn near to Allah), tayyibeen (the pleasant), taahireen (the ritually pure), tawwaabeen (the repentant), faaizeen (the successful), raaki'een (those who bow down in worship), sajideen (those who fall prostrate in worship), zaakireen (those who remember Allah), muttaqeen (the pious), muhsineen (those who are good), the haramain (Masjid i'l Haram in Makkah and Masjid Nabawi in Madina), and so on. Each of these qualilies of Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam has a salaat for a total of 86 salawaat one of which is: Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Imami'l haramain. O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad, the Imam of the two harams. | Iman Between Hope and Fear | A Muslim's belief (Iman) is said to lie between hope of rewards in heaven, and fear of trials on the Day of Judgement and of punishment in hell. The beloved Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam gave glad tidings of attaining paradise through fulfilling Huquq Allah (duties towards Allah) and Huquq u'l 'Ibaad (duties towards humanity), and issued warnings about the Day of Judgement and about hell-fire for failing to fulfil these duties. One whole chapter of Tanbeehi'l Anaam has salawaat with admonitions about the Day of Judgement, and it stands out in that it is profuse in the use of (parts of) verses of the Holy Qur'an Kareem which refer to it. One such salaat is: Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Salaata 'abdin yartajeeh Yauma yafirrul mar'u min akheeh wa ummihi wa abeeh O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad: A salaat by the servant of Allah hoping to obtain forgiveness on "The day on which a man shall flee from his own brother and from his mother and father". (80:34-35) | As-Salawaat u'l Hurufiyyah Shaykh 'Abdul Jalil bin 'Azoom Rahmatullahi 'alaih has also composed salawaat with all the letters (huruf) of the Arabic alphabet from "Alif" to "Yaa", one salaat for each letter. Such salawaat can be referred to, for ease of understanding, as "As-salawaat u'l hurufiyyah". They begin as follows: Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Alif i'l ibtidaa' Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Baai bidaayati'l ikhtiraa' Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Taa'i tamaami'l fawaaid Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Thaa'i thubuti'l aqaaid O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad: The letter "Alif" is for the start.
O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad: The letter "Baa" is for the beginning of the discovery. O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad: The letter "Taa" is for complete benefits. O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad: The letter "Thaa" is for unshakeable tenets of belief. Each of the letters of the alphabet is thus said to have a meaning and to stand for something. | Salawaat in the Form of a Mathnawi When we recite Tanbeehi'l Anaam, we begin to marvel not only at the love Shaykh 'Abdul Jalil bin 'Azoom Rahmatullahi 'alaih has for the Holy Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam but also at his literary abilities. We notice that he has written the salawaat in such a way that each couple of the salaatain rhyme in the final word. For example, in the four salawaat quoted from the "Hurufiyyah", the words "ibtidaa'" and "ikhtiraa'" rhyme, and the words "fawaaid" and "aqaaid" rhyme. The ending words of the next two salaatain rhyme in another letter and so on. This task is achieved in two volumes of the book for a total of 701 pages with more than 10,000 salawaat and salaams, Maa-Shaa-Allah! This then is salawaat in the form of an Arabic mathnawi in poetic prose! Surely, who can beat Muslim scholarship? Salawaat with Dua and Asma u'l Husna | The final chapter Fee Itmaam i's Salawaat i'l Mukarramah wa'd Du'aai bi Asmaillahi Ta'aala'l-Mu'az-zamah (Completion of the Blessed Salawaat with Invocations Using the Most Beautiful Names of Allah Ta'ala) fills one's heart with joy on reciting 198 salawaat together with Asma u'l Husna. The most well-known Asma u'l Husna are 99, and in this instance, the salawaat that have been composed by Shaykh 'Azoom are exactly twice that number! Allahu Akbar! It is fitting to conclude with one of these salawaat. Allahumma Salli wa Sallim 'alaa Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad Wa 'alaa aali Sayyidina Muhammad Salaatan tasturuna bihaa fi'l hayaati wa ba'da'l mamaat Yaa Saami'al aswaat O Allah! Bestow blessings and peace on our patron Sayyidina Muhammad and on the family of Sayyidina Muhammad. With this salaat hide my shame in life as well as after death; O the Hearer of supplications. May Allah Sub'hanahu wa Ta'ala give us the hidaya (guidance) to continue to offer salawaat on the Holy Prophet Sallallahu 'alaihi wa Sallam in ever increasing profusion everyday, Aameen Yaa Rabba'l 'Aalameen. | |
